Dr. Daniel Finn, a leading author and scholar on the relationship between economics and Catholic social teaching, will speak on Connecting Spirituality, Markets & the Financial Crisis: The Moral Ecology of Markets.
Dr. Finn will outline the history of Catholic social teaching, and will discuss recent encyclicals and the proposals of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace for stronger international oversight of financial markets. Dr. Finn teaches both economics and theology at St. John’s University in Minnesota. He has served as president of the Society of Christian Ethics and the Catholic Theological Society of America. A member of the board of trustees of USC’s Institute for Advanced Catholic Studies, his books include The Moral Ecology of Markets: a Framework for Assessing Justice in Economic Life (Cambridge, 2006) and The True Wealth of Nations: Catholic Social Thought and Economic Life (Oxford, 2010).
