Peace Activism Teachin, 15 October 2011

“Stop the Machine, Create a New World”  Teachin, in conjunction with October Coalition 2011 and in the spirit of Occupy Wall Street; Saturday night, October 15, 7-9:30 PM, guest speakers and live music, at the Unurban Coffeehouse, in Santa Monica, , 3301 Pico St., Santa Monica, CA, 90405. Sponsored by Coffee House Teachins.

Special guest speaker: Ron Kovic, war veteran and peace activist.

October 2011 is the 10th anniversary of the invasion of Afghanistan and the beginning of the 2012 federal austerity budget. It is time to light the spark that sets off a true democratic, nonviolent transition to a world in which people are freed to create just and sustainable solutions.

Other speakers demanding real peace with social, economic, & environmental justice & an end to all U.S. wars include:

Arlene Inouye, Coalition For Alternatives to Militarism in Our Schools (CAMS), and Kwazi Nkrumah, Martin Luther King Coalition for Jobs, Justice, & Peace.

Community members in the Los Angeles area will join with people camped in Washington D.C., in Freedom Plaza and across the country, on the following issues, which a large majority of the American people consistently support:

Tax the rich and corporations End the wars, bring the troops home, cut military spending Protect the social safety net, strengthen Social Security and improved Medicare for all End corporate welfare for oil companies and other big business interests Transition to a clean energy economy, reverse environmental degradation Protect worker rights including collective bargaining, create jobs and raise wages Get money out of politics.
